Byron Gago

Byron Gago (b. Ecuador, 1994) is a visual artist based in Biel, Switzerland. He studied at NABA, Milan, and took an MA at ECAL, Lausanne, in 2020.

He works by returning to a place over years, gathering testimony, field observation, material and documents as evidence. Restricted access is treated as a finding, not an obstacle: what cannot be reached is named and withheld from the image.

What the work rebuilds is not the site but the position he occupied there. Medium follows from what that position requires: video, photography, site specific installation, and sculpture in which living matter is contained, regulated and left to fail.
